The significance of the memorandum of understanding for the SAvE Whales system

Ioli Christopoulou spoke to the radio station ERT3 102FM and the journalist Aspasia Vouzi (19/06/2024) about “SAvE Whales”, the innovative system for the protection of sperm whales, a few days after a memorandum of understanding was signed at the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy.

The system pinpoints the exact position of sperm whales in a distance of up to 7 kilometers away and transmits the information in real time to inform ship crews to slow down or adjust their course to avoid collision.

In mid-July, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency (NECCA), The Green Tank and OceanCare to undertake all the necessary actions for the effective development and full operation of “SAvE Whales”.
