Ioanna Souka spoke to NaftemporikiTV on 14 November 2024 about the progress of self-production – with 665 MW of electrified projects – and of energy communities in Greece, as recorded in the 6th Green Tank review.
Answering questions from journalist Maria Smilidou, the Green Tank data analyst explained what an energy community is, while she also described this year’s milestone development for self-production: the end of net metering and the advent of net billing.
The frequent changes in the institutional framework, as well as the lack of electrical space and the absence of financial support to citizens and SMEs, were among the problems that could create stagnation in the further development of self-production, which Ioanna Souka highlighted.
What is needed now, as Ioanna Souka stressed, is to solve the critical problem of electricity space, but also to use national and European resources to provide potential self-producers with the necessary resources so that they can enjoy the advantages of energy democracy.
