Objective: The aim of LIFE ETX was to make the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) – one of the EU’s main tools for reducing greenhouse gas emissions – effective for citizens and the climate. The project partners worked to raise awareness and knowledge among civil society about the ETS and CO2 pricing; to promote the commitment of citizens and stakeholders to the implementation of the ETS in the EU and internationally; to provide scientific knowledge on the functioning and potential of the ETS in achieving the 2030 climate targets, and to develop CO2 pricing policies at national and European level.
Our contribution: As part of the project, The Green Tank contributed to the networking and empowerment of environmental organizations and civil society in general on issues related to the operation of the ETS, as well as to informing other stakeholders and policy and decision makers. Similar actions were undertaken with a focus on the Western Balkans, contributing further to the promotion of carbon pricing policies at national level, while bringing local organisations into contact with European institutions. In cooperation with project partners, the organization undertook policy and advocacy actions for the revision of the ETS and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism at national and European level. Through complementary analyses and regular opinion articles, The Green Tank highlighted the role and social impact of the ETS in the public debate and actively participated in the Human Stories campaign.
