The Balkan Coal Network monitors developments around the energy transition in the Western Balkans and in particular in the electricity production sector. Led by CEE Bankwatch, the Network seeks to prevent the construction of new lignite plants, secure commitments for the closure of existing lignite plants and until then monitor their operation to ensure they comply with pollution prevention legislation. The aim is to achieve the sustainable transition of the sector to renewable energy, away from fossil fuels, alongside the adoption of ambitious climate targets.
The Green Tank is part of the network since 2018.
