- Transition regions are those hosting carbon-intensive economic activities and for which a Territorial Just Transition Plan (TJTP) funded by the EU Just Transition Fund has been approved.
- For Greece, these are the lignite regions of Western Macedonia (Kozani, Evrdea, Amyndeon, Florina) and municipalities of the Regional Units of Arcadia (Megalopolis, Tripoli, Gortynia) and Messinia (Oichalia), as well as the islands of the North and South Aegean Sea and Crete..
Energy Communities
- The electrified capacity of EnCom projects at low-medium voltage in the transition regions is 170.4 MW (11.5% of the total).
- At high voltage, 59.9 MW of EnCom projects operate in W. Macedonia, which constitutes 5.6% of the total electrified capacity of EnCom projects in HV.
- 572 EnCom projects with a capacity of 465 MW have been cancelled.
- There are 220 pending EnCom projects with a capacity of 165 MW.
Western Macedonia: 281 EnCom, 239 electrified projects (170.5 MW), 75 of which at high voltage (59.9 MW).
- Largest nationwide ratio of cancelled to electrified projects (3.7 to 1).
- Highest percentage of cancelled projects with a prior notification of inability to connect (89.7%).
Arcadia: 42 EnCom, 42 electrified projects (17.1 MW).
Messinia: 10 EnCom, 33 electrified projects (23.5 MW).
Crete: 85 EnCom, 26 electrified projects (19.1 MW).
South Aegean: 12 EnCom, 0 electrified projects.
North Aegean: 5 EnCom, HEDNO does not record data on electrified projects, although it is known that there are at least 3 electrified self-production projects with a total capacity of 210 KW from 2 EnCom in Chios and Lesvos.
Self Production
- Self-production projects implemented by energy communities in the transition regions have a capacity of 29 MW (57 projects), while those implemented by other actors (citizens, farmers, enterprises, municipalities, etc.) have a capacity of 112 MW (6,970 projects).
- The capacity of cancelled projects (77.3 MW) is significantly lower than that of electrified projects (145.8 MW), while 1,698 self-production projects with a capacity of 119.6 MW are pending.
Western Macedonia: 1,357 electrified projects with a capacity of 28.9 MW.
Arcadia: 416 electrified projects with a capacity of 13.8 MW.
Messinia: 830 electrified projects with a capacity of 20.8 MW.
Crete: 4,061 electrified projects with a capacity of 77.8 MW.
South Aegean: 447 electrified projects with a capacity of 4.6 MW.
North Aegean: Nothing recorded by HEDNO.
- There are 17 pending virtual net metering projects with a capacity of 12.9 MW, of which 11 projects with a capacity of 11.5 MW have a connection contract, as well as 100 pending virtual net billing projects with a capacity of 45.6 MW in the transition regions, of which 11 projects with a capacity of 4.1 MW have a connection contract and are therefore closer to implementation.
- These projects could be financed by the 2021-2027 Just Development Transition Program (PDAM) under the condition of broadening the beneficiaries in the relevant calls beyond energy communities of municipalities and related entities.
