- Transition regions are those hosting carbon-intensive economic activities and for which a Territorial Just Transition Plan (TJTP) funded by the EU Just Transition Fund has been approved.
- For Greece, these are the lignite regions of Western Macedonia (Kozani, Evrdea, Amyndeon, Florina) and municipalities of the Regional Units of Arcadia (Megalopolis, Tripoli, Gortynia) and Messinia (Oichalia), as well as the islands of the North and South Aegean Sea and Crete..
Energy Communities
- The electrified capacity of EnCom projects in the transition regions (166.9 MW) represents 11.4% of the electrified capacity of EnCom projects in the country.
- 519 EnCom projects with a capacity of 424.9 MW have been cancelled.
- There are 279 pending EnCom projects with a capacity of 213.6 MW.
Western Macedonia: 275 EnCom, 155 electrified projects (104 MW).
- Largest nationwide ratio of cancelled to electrified projects (3.6:1).
- Highest percentage of cancelled projects with a prior notification of inability to connect (88.7%).
Arcadia: 44 EnCom, 47 electrified projects (20.8 MW).
Messinia: 10 EnCom, 33 electrified projects (23.5 MW).
Crete: 91 EnCom, 25 electrified projects (18.6 MW).
South Aegean: 12 EnCom, 0 electrified projects.
North Aegean: 5 EnCom, HEDNO does not record data on electrified projects, although it is known that there are at least 3 electrified self-production projects with a total capacity of 210 KW from 2 EnCom in Chios and Lesvos.
Self Production
- Self-production projects implemented by energy communities in the transition regions have a capacity of 28.5 MW (56 projects), while those implemented by other actors (citizens, farmers, enterprises, municipalities, etc.) have a capacity of 109.8 MW (6,939 projects).
- The capacity of cancelled projects (69.7 MW) is significantly lower than that of electrified projects (138.2 MW), while 1,513 self-production projects with a capacity of 114 MW are pending.
Western Macedonia: 1,324 electrified projects with a capacity of 27.8 MW.
Arcadia: 405 electrified projects with a capacity of 12.6 MW.
Messinia: 806 electrified projects with a capacity of 17.6 MW.
Crete: 4,021 electrified projects with a capacity of 75.9 MW.
South Aegean: 439 electrified projects with a capacity of 4.4 MW.
North Aegean: Nothing recorded by HEDNO.
- There are 25 virtual net metering projects with a capacity of 17.7 MW and 76 virtual net billing projects with a capacity of 36.8 MW pending in the transition regions, of which 23 projects with a capacity of 16.3 MW have a connection contract and are therefore closer to implementation.
- These projects, and especially those that have signed a connection contract, could be financed by the 2021-2027 Just Development Transition Program (PDAM) under the condition of broadening the beneficiaries in the relevant calls beyond energy communities of municipalities and related entities.
