Dimitra Syrou
Nature Policy Associate
Integrating sociocultural parameters in the design and implementation of environmental policies is a prerequisite for its effectiveness. Within this context, ‘man’ is not just an actor that causes environmental problems but a driver in pursuing and applying solutions to address them.
Meanwhile, policy is a tool that can produce results but must be environmentally sound, socially just and economically viable. This belief drives Dimitra through her academic and professional course.
Dimitra has a Bachelor degree in Political Science and Public Administration, holds an MSc on Environmental Policy and Management and a PhD on Environmental Governance. As part of her research, she studied issues concerning the governance of Protected Areas while focusing on stakeholders’ perceptions.
She has collaborated as a research associate with organizations, such as the Hellenic Centre of Marine Research and the National Centre for Social Research. She also teaches “Ecosystem Management” in the international Master’s Program MESPOM (University of the Aegean).
