According to the latest monthly data for the interconnected electricity network from ADMIE (June 2021):
For the first time in 2021, in June, the renewables (RES, mainly wind and solar) share in Greece fell below 30% (24%).
Cumulatively, during the first half of 2021, fossil gas had the largest share in the electricity mix with renewables being the close second – having a difference of less than 0.5TWh.
Fossil fuels (fossil gas and lignite) surpass renewables and Large hydro by 0.4TWh in the first half of 2021. This gap was never smaller.
In addition, there is still a decrease in lignite electricity production, in contrast to other coal producing countries, where there was an increase compared to the same period in 2020.
The changes compared to the first half of 2020 were as follows:
Lignite: -8%
Fossil gas: + 12%
RES: + 15%
Large hydro: + 108%
