Talk by Ioli Christopoulou on “Biodiversity conservation policy” to students of the Department of Biological Applications and Technology at the University of Ioannina.
The talk coincided with the celebration of the European Natura 2000 Day, on May 21, 2020, and is part of a series of guest lectures on current issues of conservation and management of Greek biodiversity organized as part of the course “Biodiversity Conservation in Practice” taught by Associate Professor Ms. Vassiliki Kati.
The talk provided an overview of the institutional and legal tools at the international, European and national levels for biodiversity conservation. Both the talk and the discussion with the students and their professor focused on recent developments such as the European Green Deal announced in December 2019, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 that was made public only the day before, as well as the new law 4685/2020 on the modernization of the environmental legislation that came into force on May 7, 2020.
