Nikos Mantzaris participated in the online discussion on the National Climate Law organized by the British Embassy Athens in collaboration with WWF Greece, on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
The event was entitled “Towards a zero emissions climate resilient future: Introducing a Climate Law in Greece“. Initial presentations were given by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Greece Kate Smith, the Secretary General of Natural Environment and Water, Konstantinos Arabosis, the President of the Scientific Committee on Climate Change of the UK John Gummer Lord Deben, as well as his Greek counterpart, Professor Costas Synolakis. A panel discussion moderated by journalist Thodoris Georgakopoulos, followed with the participation of Alina Averchenkova, Distinguished Policy Fellow, The Grantham Research Institute, The London School of Economics and Political Science, Demetris Karavellas, CEO of WWF Greece, Jill Rutter, Senior Fellow of the UK Government Institute, Maria Gavouneli, Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Athens, and Nikos Mantzaris, co-founder of the Green Tank and member of the Scientific Committee on Climate Change in Greece.
The discussion revolved around the lessons learned from the UK Climate Law, which is the first to be enacted, as well as the content of the Greek Climate Law as reflected in the relevant proposal by WWF Greece as well as the corresponding proposal by the Greek Scientific Committee on Climate Change.
