The first meeting of the “Nature 2000” Committee with its new composition – which was established by a decision of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Thodoros Skylakakis, for a three-year term (2024-2027) – took place on Friday 14 June.
The “Nature 2000” Committee is the central scientific advisory body of the State for the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of policies and measures for the protection of Greek biodiversity. The “Nature 2000” Committee consists of academics and researchers with different specialties, representatives of ministries and environmental organizations.
Panagiotis Paphilis, Professor of Biodiversity at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, has been appointed Chairman of the Committee.
Ioli Christopoulou is again one of the two regular representatives of environmental organizations and has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Commission.
The non-governmental, environmental organizations participate with representatives from The Green Tank and WWF Hellas as full members, and from the Hellenic Ornithological Society and iSea as alternates.
