The Green Tank at the 1st National Conference of the Greek Energy Communities Coalition

Ioanna Theodosiou, policy associate at Green Tank, attended the first National Conference of the Greek Energy Communities Coalition, which took place on Monday, October 21.

Ioanna participated in the dynamic dialogue on “Electric Space. Barriers and opportunities for the development of energy communities in Greece”.

She presented the recent data on the number and projects of energy communities and focused on the problem of availability of electrical space for self-generation projects. She also talked about the challenges that self-producers face today, such as the implementation of net billing, the Apollon Programme and the implementation of virtual net metering by suppliers, while she also highlighted the broader issues of renewable energy sources that also concern energy communities, such as RES curtailments, the abolition of the guaranteed price system and the participation in competitive procedures.

The conference presented an opportunity for dialogue, exchange of proposals and ideas, as well as for highlighting issues related to community energy and a just energy transition.
