Ioanna Theodosiou participated at the event organized by Greenpeace ‘Energy transition in Magnesia: The climate crisis, fossil gas and the path to a sustainable energy future’, held on 26 February 2025 at the Technical Chamber of Magnesia. She presented the institution of energy communities as a tool in the hands of citizens, allowing them to participate in the energy transition, to shield themselves from fossil fuel price fluctuations, and ensure sustainable and clean solutions for their energy needs.
Mapping the most recent developments in the institutional framework as well as the latest data on energy community projects in Greece, she concluded with proposals for more measures to secure electricity space, a smooth transition from net metering to net billing, facilitating access to bank lending, allocating resources to citizens’ and SMEs’ communities and encouraging citizens’ participation in large renewable projects with emphasis on lignite areas.
The event was organized by the Greek office of Greenpeace with the cooperation of the associations ‘Environmental Initiative of Magnesia’, ‘Citizens of Magnesia for Health and Environment’, and the ‘Association for the Protection and Promotion of Pagasitikos River’.
Other speakers included:
Kostas Kaloudis, Greek office of Greenpeace
