An AMNA (Athens-Macedonian News Agency) article examines Greece’s new Ministerial Decision simplifying and accelerating procedures for small self-consumption energy systems, with or without battery storage.
The article features comments by Nikos Mantzaris, Lead Policy Analyst and co-founder of The Green Tank, who described the decision as “a step in the right direction” after years of delays that had stalled the market. He also stressed the importance of informing citizens about the new options available to them so they can reduce their electricity bills “significantly and sustainably.”
The article also draws on Green Tank data showing the growing contribution of solar power in Greece. In June 2026, solar PV accounted for 31.6% of total electricity generation, rising to around 34% when non-interconnected islands are included. In the first half of 2026, the corresponding shares were 21% and 25.1%, respectively.
The new framework includes provisions for collective self-consumption, energy storage and small-scale PV systems, including so-called balcony solar installations.
