Nikos Mantzaris participated in the 15-year anniversary online event of ECOWEEK as a guest speaker on October 2, 2020 presenting the paradigm shift in Greece’s climate and energy policy following the decision to phase-out lignite by 2028 at the latest.

Lignite phase-out: 1 year later

It is one year since the Greek Prime Minister announced the historic commitment that Greece is to completely phase-out lignite by 2028 (at the latest), speaking at the UN Special Climate Action Summit in New York.

Greece is almost saying goodbye to lignite

Nikos Mantzaris is quoted in an article in the German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel which analyzes the coal-phase out paths of Greece and Germany and compares the cases of new coal plants “Ptolemaida 5” in Greece and “Datteln 4” in Germany with that of “Ostroleka C” in Poland for which the decision was made to cancel the coal character of the project.
