The European Commission has found that in order to meet the -55% climate target by 2030, fossil fuel consumption must be reduced by 30% by 2030, while the International Energy Agency (IEA) says there is no need for new fossil gas infrastructure after 2021, including mining.
However, there is a lot of pressure to include fossil gas technologies among the “green” investments, thus gaining access to finance.
The Green Tank joins its voice with 149 other NGOs and think tanks across Europe, urging the European Commission NOT to include fossil gas infrastructure among those considered sustainable.
