The tenth issue of The Green Tank’s newsletter has been published, covering developments over the past six months related to the Just Transition of lignite regions in Greece and across Europe (July–December 2025).
The newsletter presents the key institutional developments of the period, updates from Greece and Europe, as well as a special section dedicated to energy communities.
Among the issues in focus are the European Commission’s proposal for the new 2028–2034 EU budget, which was submitted without a dedicated Just Transition Fund. Energy communities and self-generation remain at a standstill in Greece. Nevertheless, RAAEY adopted a landmark decision to restore order in the energy community sector, which was subsequently enshrined in law by the State, strengthening their cooperative and non-profit character.
In this newsletter, you will find more information on these and other developments, the progress of implementation of the Just Development Transition Programme (JDTP) 2021–2027, as well as The Green Tank’s actions to strengthen self-generation and energy communities, promote youth participation in the transition of lignite regions, and advocate for a stronger institutional and financial framework for the Just Transition at both national and European level.
