The Green Tank comments on the new Just Transition Programme 2021–2027 measures

The Green Tank submitted comments to the Special Managing Authority for the Just Development Transition on two implementation documents included in the 11th written procedure of the Just Development Transition Programme (JTP) 2021–2027.

The first concerns the measure “Renewable Energy Generation to Cover Municipal Energy Costs”, with a total budget of €20 million, providing funding for electricity self-generation systems, with or without battery storage. The Green Tank welcomes the measure and the explicit exclusion of investments in fossil fuel projects. However, it points out that the available budget and planned capacity of 20 MW are limited compared with the needs of the transition regions. It also recommends expanding eligibility to include energy communities of citizens and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as reviewing the indicators used to estimate renewable electricity generation.

The second measure, “Transition to a Low-Emission Public/Municipal Vehicle Fleet”, has a budget of €100 million and will fund zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure. The Green Tank welcomes the measure, given the need to accelerate the transition to electric mobility in Greece.

The Green Tank supports both measures, while also submitting specific comments aimed at improving their design and effectiveness.
