Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development as defined in the World Commission on Environment and Development’s 1987 Brundtland report is one that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

There are three pillars of sustainable development: the environmental, the social and the economic pillar. The global community’s commitment to the principle of sustainable development was renewed in the 2015 United Nations General Assembly’s flagship agreement, which adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be met by 2030.

The Green Tank seeks to ensure a sustainable development through its work and policy recommendations on the green transformation of our energy model, biodiversity protection, and just transition. In particular, we focus on sustainable development goals in recommendations concerning the allocation and development of financial instruments for societies in transition, and nature restoration, while we undertake actions to inform and raise awareness among citizens, civil society groups and organizations at local, national and European level.
