In October 2024, the lowest carbon intensity ever (216 g CO2/kWh) was recorded in the Greek power sector, due to low lignite production combined with increased renewable energy production.

In October, lignite production (65 GWh) was the second lowest historically in Greece, while renewables production (2,262 GWh) was the fourth highest historically, despite increased curtailments (141 GWh - second highest of the year).

Total gas consumption in Greece in October (4.73 TWh) was the second lowest monthly consumption in 2024 after April (4.2 TWh). However, industry recorded the highest gas consumption of the year (0.93 TWh).
