Michalis Petrakos is a marine engineer & naval architect (National Technical University of Athens) with MSc and PhD in statistics (University of Wyoming). He had a post-Doctoral Fellowship with the Space Applications Institute at the EU’s JRC. His research has been on a variety of disciplines (marine environment, remote sensing, official statistics, biostatistics etc.)

He has been active in the green movement since the late 80s. Michalis has been a founding member of the Ecological Initiative in NTUA, the Ecologists Alternatives, and a member of the central council of the National Student Union of Greece. He was also a founding member of the Ecologist Greens whom he served from various posts including coordinator of the Executive Committee (2009-2010). He has partaken in organizations and movements for environmental protection and sustainable mobility.

Presently, he serves as a scientific advisor of the Municipality of Prespes aiming to achieve sustainable development in a protected area.
