The Green Tank participated in the public consultation organized by the Ministry of Environment and Energy on the Joint Ministerial Decisions for the adoption and the implementation of eight Action Plans for species and habitats of community interest. The Green Tank submitted comments and recommendations that relate horizontally to all action plans.
Completing the draft action plans and submitting them to public consultation, following the adoption of the first two national and one regional action plan in 2017, constitute particularly positive developments.
Making headway on the action plans signals progress on the implementation of the provisions of national legislation and the national biodiversity strategy, on Greece’s compliance with European and international obligations, and on the utilization of EU funds, as well as on the use of available scientific knowledge. Moreover, it signals a constructive cooperation of various services, agencies and organizations, which is necessary for their completion.
Nonetheless, issues regarding the structure, completeness and documentation of the action plans and the extent to which they are publicly available, as well as whether they encourage participatory implementation are noted. For these issues, the Green Tank submitted specific recommendations to address them.
