Biodiversity policy developments

Ioli Christopoulou was an invited speaker to the online event titled “Policy and implementation of biodiversity conservation in Greece” organized by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on Wednesday, 13/01/2021.

In her speech, she gave an overview of international and European developments in biodiversity conservation policy. She then presented the conclusions and recommendations reached by the Green Tank during its assessment of the implementation of Greece’s National Biodiversity Strategy from 2014 to date. This assessment was part of the project “Priority to Nature” implemented under the Active citizens fund by The Green Tank.

The online event, which is part of the Erasmus + program “Future Environmentalists – Linking EU Natural Capital Management to Field Research” was coordinated by Associate Professor Mr. Ioannis Tsiripidis.

Professor,Vice Rector of the University of Patras and Chairman of the Nature 2000 Committee, Mr. Panagiotis Dimopoulos, and the Administrator and Director of the OikoM Environmental Studies Ltd., Mr. Vangelis Pappas were also invited speakers at the event. The event was well attended with close to 100 participants, most of whom are students at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The project “Priority to nature” was implemented under the Active citizens fund in Greece by the Green Tank.

The Active citizens fund in Greece is supported through a € 12m grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021. The program aims to develop the sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector in Greece, and to strengthen its role in promoting and safeguarding democratic procedures, active citizenship and human rights. The Fund Operator for the Active citizens fund in Greece is Bodossaki Foundation in consortium with SolidarityNow.
