Halkidiki 10 July 2019 – The climate crisis is here

On Wednesday July 10, 2019 an extreme weather event struck the region of Halkidiki in northern Greece. It resulted tragically in the death of 7 and the injury of several individuals, as well as many damages. Extreme weather events hit also other parts of the country, where mostly damages to crops were recorded.

On the tragic occasion of the events in Halkidiki, the Green Tank commented to media on how extreme weather events will become more intense and common due to the climate crisis. The Green Tank emphasized the urgent need to phase out coal and committing to becoming carbon neutral. The Green Tank also offered insights on nature-based climate solutions that can support both mitigation of the climate crisis and adaptation to the new climate crisis.
