RES and social acceptance

On October 13, 2021, Ioli Christopoulou coordinated the 5th panel, titled “RES and social acceptance – Participation of local communities”, of the third conference organized by energypress on RES and energy storage, “Renewable & Storage #3 Forum”.

In her introductory statement, Ioli Christopoulou referred to the emergency state of the environment and climate and the positions of major international organizations that recognize as imperative the need for green energy transition, as well as Greece’s goals for the development of RES, which has already been announced that they will be increase, in the forthcoming revision of the National Energy and Climate Plan. Although the challenges to the greater development of RES are many, the discussion then revolved around two axes: the impact of RES on biodiversity and the social reactions that arise from the RES penetration attempt penetrate .

The discussion began with a presentation by Vassilis Orfanos, Special Consultant of nvisionist, presenting the company’s system for the prevention of bird collision in wind turbines. The round table was complemented by Zacharias Zoupis, Research Director of Opinion Poll, with a presentation of research on the acceptance of RES by citizens, Dimitris Oikonomou, Emeritus Professor of the University of Thessaly and former Deputy Minister of Environment, Giannis Mitsopoulos, General Manager of the Organization for Natural Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA), Panagiotis Papastamatiou, General Manager of ELETAEN, Nikos Chrysofelos, Member of P N. Aegean, and Vassilis Tsolakidis, SYRIZA member, former president of CRES.
